Motion Control – Anyone who’s worked on cars knows how critically important ball joints are to steering and suspension. They also know what happens when ball joints fail!

E. Longmeadow, MA – — Motion Control – Application Story – When an aftermarket manufacturer of off-road steering and suspension systems needed an upper ball joint bearing, they called LM76. These systems are purchased by off-road vehicle owners who want to upgrade their OEM steering and suspension units for hard-hitting environments. Pounding, shock, sand and debris are all part of the mix when it comes to extreme off-roading and LM76 Black Racer bearings are right at home. According to company engineers, after a year of brutal testing, Black Racer met all design goals and exceeded expectations.

LM76’s high speed, “Black Racer,” ceramic coated linear bearings out perform linear ball bushing and linear polymer bearings in high speed and high acceleration/deceleration applications. These drop in replacement linear bearings are designed to be used in standard open and closed pillow blocks. “Black Racer” linear bearings are ideal for: Rocket sleds, crash test systems, and other high speed, high acceleration application.

Open and closed ceramic bearings are available in 12 inch sizes (0.250 in. to 4.000 in.) and 11 metric sizes (5 mm to 80 mm), and in LM76’s self aligning configuration, as well as their Lube/Plus DesignTM which incorporates an internal felt wiper to extend lubrication capabilities. A file hard RC 89 ceramic shell over an aluminum substrate has a coefficient of friction of .04 to .08 (1/3 the coefficient of friction polymer bearings), withstands up to 5000 PSI, 40,000 PV and unlimited SFM! Additionally, these bearings have a typical life expectancy of 100 million linear feet. Shafting options include RC60 steel shafting and other shafting options available from LM76.
